talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor has issued startling assessment of Wolves following their 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.
The managerless side, who sacked Bruno Lage earlier this week, were led into the game by interim head coach Steve Davis, though he was unable to inspire an improved performance.
Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja found the net for Chelsea in a comfortable victory, which quite possibly could have been significantly worse for the visitors if the Blues were more ruthless in front of goal.
Agbonlahor reflected on the GameDay Phone-In: “When I watch Wolves now – they can’t defend, they can’t attack, what can they do?
“Honestly mate, I’d be their top goalscorer.
“They’ve scored three goals Wolves this season. Nine games, they’ve scored three Premier League goals.
“They’re relying on a Diego Costa who’s past it.
“They’ve sold their best two centre-halfs Willy Boly and Conor Coady, I think Coady’s on loan.
“And they just look a million miles off it.
“They can’t get near no-one, they’re going through the motions, and they are my bankers to get relegated.
“I’ve said it before with teams like this, no-one’s standing up to be counted.
“Adama Traore’s going through the motions on the right, Daniel Podence couldn’t score if there was a mannequin in goal, honestly he’s miles off it.
“If I’m a Wolves fan, I’m frightened for this season.”
Chelsea did not even play their strongest team for the game, with several big names rested in between two crucial Champions League group games against Milan.
The Blues conquered the Italian champions at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and will now play them again at the San Siro on Tuesday.
Agbonlahor added: “Graham Potter looked at Wolves and said, ‘Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Reece James – have a little rest and I’ll play the players that haven’t had much game time.’
“He said, ‘Go on Christian Pulisic, go and get yourself a goal. Mason Mount, a bit of confidence. Kai Havertz, you go and get yourself a goal as well. It’s only Wolves, the whipping boys.’
“He knows he’s playing a shambolic, embarrassing group of players.
“They’re awful mate, they’re awful.
“I’m watching them and I’m like, ‘They ain’t fighting for their fans that have travelled to go and watch the game in London.’
“They ain’t fighting for the club, they’re going through the motions.
“No-one even made a tackle today.”
