Chelsea defender Thiago Silva says he has spoken to Paulo Dybala about potentially moving to Stamford Bridge this summer and believes it would be a ‘massive signing’.

Reports in Italy have linked the west Londoners with a swoop for the Argentina international, who has a release clause in his Roma contract which allows him to join teams outside of Serie A for just €12million (£10m).

Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be a big fan of his compatriot and tried to sign him at both Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain previously.

Dybala is currently in England on holiday and has been taking in some huge sporting events, notably meeting Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon last week and watching the British grand prix at Silverstone over the weekend.

Chelsea centre-back Silva was also in attendance for Sunday’s Formula 1 race and has now revealed that he bumped into Dybala and encouraged him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

‘I saw Paulo Dybala here, they [the media] talk about him coming to Chelsea,’ Silva told Sky Sport Italia on the grid walk.

‘I’ve talked with him and asked him if he is coming. He is a world-class player.’

He added: ‘I would love to play with him and it would be a massive signing. Let’s see.’

Silva also briefly touched on the possibility of Christian Pulisic moving to AC Milan, saying: ‘Pulisic is a good guy, he’s going to do very well at Milan – the same as Ruben Loftus-Cheek.’

One cheeky Chelsea fan managed to grab Dybala for a picture at Silverstone and asked him if he was joining the Blues, though the forward declined to answer and walked out of shot with a broad smile on his face.

Although his season was disrupted by injury, Dybala enjoyed a strong campaign; he netted 12 times and laid on six assists in 26 Serie A appearances and netted five times en route to the Europa League final.

The 29-year-old, who also lifted the World Cup, was lured to Rome by Jose Mourinho on a free transfer and the Special One would be loathe to lose such an important player.

Asked about the speculation surrounding Dybala on Saturday, the Portuguese coach replied: ‘I don’t know anything about his contract. But obviously I talk to Paulo like I do with all of my players.’

Although Chelsea have brought in Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku this summer, they were among the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season – only averaging a goal a game – and Pochettino is keen to add more firepower to his squad.
