Many of us hooded-eyed folks often feel a little left out by eye makeup trends – but actually, most techniques just need a little adapting. Take the glamorous cut crease look, for example… turns out, there’s a genius way to make it work for your eye shape.
Over on TikTok, makeup creator Michelle Doria has shared the simplest way to make sure your cut crease shows above your lid – a problem those with hooded lids might struggle with, since there’s less space to work on.
In case you’re unfamiliar, a ‘cut crease’ is an eyeshadow look that exaggerates the shape of the eyelid by carving out a crease line using a lighter shadow. It is commonly used by drag queens to alter the shape of the eye, but it can be as subtle or as extra as you like.
In this case, Michelle advises that you prep the eyelid as you usually would, using an eyeshadow primer (particularly important for those with hooded or oily lids, she notes) and blending a transition eyeshadow across the crease. Then blend in a slightly deeper shade, focusing on the inner and outer corners to create an elongated shape.

To create the cut crease shape, take some micellar water on a cotton bud and ‘carve’ out your shape on the lid – but don’t worry if it’s not precise, as your next step is the real trick.
“Place some concealer on the edge of your lid, look up and your eye will naturally carve out the edge of your crease, allowing it to show up even when your eyes are open,” Michelle advises.
After the concealer line has imprinted on the top of your lid, fill in the rest of the space with your concealer and pack a lighter eyeshadow on top. You can then add glitter or jewels to the look if you like – for a little extra somethin’-somethin’.
Add a winged liner, mascara and lashes et voilà… a fierce eye look even Euphoria‘s Maddy would be proud of.
