You know us; we love a bit of nail art. And one design we’ve been swooning over this week is the dot scallop nail art that pro manicurist Hang Nguyen (better known by @thehangedit on Instagram) posted to her grid this week.
The diagonal, crimped design looked simple but with a teensy twist to add extra detail and keep things interesting and textural. Hang kept the look monochrome with black polish applied over a bare base – though you could swap in any colour you fancy.
It’s the kind of design we absolutely love since it’s statement enough to generate compliments but simple enough to work alongside your entire wardrobe while adding a little more personality.

If you’re on board but trying to keep costs down, the good news is that, while it looks intricate, the design is actually fairly easy to do yourself at home. “Believe it or not, this design was pretty simple to do ????,” Hang wrote in her caption, adding: “A little hackiddy hack. A nice little variety to the diagonal French. Tutorial coming up soon ????”.
True to her word, Hang shared a video the next day setting out exactly how she created the design. “Tutorial hack to yesterday’s art. Anyone guessed I did it this way ? ????,” she asked.
In the video, Hang takes an old bobby pin and uses the rounded bobble on the end to stamp a series of black dots with nail polish, each touching the other, in a diagonal line across her nail. Once complete, she used the brush from the nail polish, with the excess removed, to fill in the bare space above the line, up to the tip, with black nail polish, so the whole design looked joined and cohesive.
