This Fenty Lip Stain Is the Only Non-K-Beauty Tint I Approve Of

I’m no stranger to K-beauty tints. In fact, they’re some of the most prized items in my extensive — others might say, excessive — lip collection. While I love a full-coverage, matte liquid lipstick moment, I also appreciate a look that requires less precision (if you’re going for a blotted look) and doesn’t require me to touch up my color every half hour.

To be frank, I was late to the launch of Fenty Beauty’s Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain. It didn’t seem to be, as least to my knowledge, a widely-publicized launch. But I couldn’t hide my excitement once the news landed in my inbox. All four shades (Mai Type, Zesty Bestie, Strawberry Sangria, and Berry Banger) looked deliciously pigmented — like colors I could envision myself wearing on the daily, depending on my mood.

This particular stain is spiked with glycerin and squalane, two ingredients my skin and I adore. I suffer from constantly dry lips — despite my best efforts to apply a lip mask every night — so hydrating lip products can only help my cause. I can confirm from the moment Poutsicle touches my lips, that I don’t experience any dryness or otherwise uncomfortable effects. “Featherweight” is definitely the descriptor that comes to mind.

I’m not too precious about application but the method I’ve come to prefer is swiping the applicator across the center of my lips a few times back and forth until I’m satisfied with the concentration, and then using my ring finger to gently blot the pigment from the center outwards. If I really want to layer on the pigment, I’ll apply the product across the entirety of my lips as I would with any regular lip product. The doe-foot applicator is quite slim and pointed, so precise application is a breeze.
