Set on a postcard-perfect clifftop overlooking Mononaftis Bay on the Greek island of Crete, ACRO Suites is the ideal spot to unwind, recharge and reconnect, far away from the hubbub of everyday life.

About Crete
The largest and most populous of the Greek islands is home to more than 650,000 people. With some 4,000 years of history that dates back all the way to Minoan times, through the Mycenaean civilisation and the rules of the Romans, to the Arabs, Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans, Crete is one the most culturally and historically fascinating regions in Greece.

In terms of landscape, there is everything from soaring mountains to sprawling beaches, and plenty of fertile plains, ideal for farming. There are 30 million olive trees in Crete, so olive oil is big business here, along with produce such as wine, cheese, fruit and vegetables—all of which contribute to the rich flavors and multitude of health benefits of Cretan cuisine, famous for its freshness and simplicity.

Where better, then, to build a resort dedicated to relaxation and health than here, on Crete’s rugged northern coast? ACRO Suites is set on a cliffside overlooking the crashing waves and deep blue of the Aegean Sea, just a short drive from Heraklion International Airport and the Port of Heraklion.

Active vacations at ACRO Suites
If being active on vacation is your jam, ACRO Suites has you covered. The resort’s modern fitness house invites you to get your sweat on using the latest TRX equipment, mats, weights, and kettlebells, while admiring the stunning sea views. Daily yoga sessions are available, with experienced instructors on hand to guide you through an uplifting, restorative practice. There is also a tennis court, padel court, mini basketball court, and a pilates reformer on site. Better still, all these services are complimentary for hotel guests.
Starting this year, ACRO Suites is introducing a weekly yogic deep relaxation session that taps into the practice of yoga nidra—a form of conscious yogic sleep, induced by guided meditation.

Rest, relaxation and fitness
But while ACRO Suites may be kitted out with all the latest gear for fitness enthusiasts, what sets it apart from many other wellness resorts is that it’s equally well suited to pursuits that are a little less high octane.

The hotel’s General Manager Michalis Markakis says the two are not mutually exclusive. While as many as 70% of guests combine relaxation with fitness and training during their stay, this is not a requirement.
“We have an open mindset, embrace new ideas, and everyone’s welcome to be themselves here. The hotel is known for its warm, friendly hospitality and positive vibe,” Markakis continues.

Pamper yourself
If your idea of a vacation involves less sweat and more pampering, the bath house may well be your personal slice of paradise. Designed to indulge the senses naturally and organically, the space has an authentic Byzantine Hammam, a dry sauna, an outdoor pool, and several treatment rooms offering everything from tension-melting massages to radiance-boosting facials.

Highlights include the sunset villa, with its dreamy mix of ocean blue and golden sunset views, while the cave suites feature natural elements throughout, along with sea views and a private pool. With sustainability in mind, these suites have been built to maintain a stable, pleasant temperature year-round, with no need for air conditioning or heating.

Eating well at ACRO Suites
Food is another central element at ACRO Suites. The hotel’s newest restaurant Elaionas, (“olive grove” in Greek) is set in a pretty olive garden and offers traditional Cretan dishes, as well as olive-oil and wine-tasting experiences.

The menu at the hotel’s signature restaurant Cremnos is healthy, yet delicious, based on fresh, organic ingredients sourced from farms around the island, while the Umi restaurant serves Nikkei cuisine, a combination of delicate Japanese dishes infused with the punchiness of Peruvian flavors.
ACRO Suites is reopening on April 23rd for the 2023 season.
