TikTok has done it again, they have unlocked yet another secret for pouty, defined lips and this lip hack requires minimal tools and minimal effort. Granted, we may have seen this trick around before, and it’s likely a few of us have actually been doing it for a while, but we’re just glad it now has a name and that it has been dominating our TikTok FYP yet again. Plus, the TikTok girls are not ones to gatekeep the tricks of the trade from us.
This one is called the inner liner lip hack, and it promises to give you that Bratz doll smize, but the natural and wearable way, without the over the top, overlining. Once we saw a content creator @tasmin_jpg going viral and then a bunch of others recreating it, we of course had to tap in.

How to do the inner liner hack:
To achieve it is simple. Choose a lip liner shade darker than your natural lip line. Firstly, contour your lip line as you usually would (feel free to overline your cupid’s bow and the centre of your bottom lip for extra dimension). Content creator @bexcxmpbell concurs, she adds: “Start by slightly overlining the lips in your usual shape and then add the liner to the centre, top and bottom, not all the way to the corners.” Then with your lips closed, draw-on a filled in diamond shape with that same lip liner and fill it in. Smack your lips together once or twice to blend out the lip pencil colour.
To finish off, add a lipstick of your choice, whether a matte, semi-matte, or glossy, in a lighter shade than your lip liner, and blend it all together. Top it up with a clear gloss if you’re going for that uber-glazed finish. You can also simply do one or the other in terms of lipstick and lipgloss, if you want to keep the finish matte and more au-naturel.
The shadow you create by adding a dark coloured lip liner in the inside part of the lower and upper lip will create the illusion of a rounder lip shape. This means you can do it with more neutral colours, to bright reds or pinks, as long as you match a darker lip pencil with its matching lighter lip colour. Sounds simple right? Try these lip liners:
When picking shades Bex advices to take a liner one or two shades darker than the lip colour you want to use. The liner also be the same shade or darker than your natural lip line.
What are the cons?
Although it works for all lips shapes it’s important to find the trick to adapt to your own. Bex says
“Yes it will work for all lip shapes with a few tweaks, for example changing shades of the lip pencil for a deeper lip shade or lining thinner with the pencil for a smaller lip shape.”

It’s also harder to get this hack to work if you have dual-coloured lips, which are very common with darker skin types. The lip liner shade will blend out very differently on the top lip than it would on the bottom. Therefore, to add the volume and definition effect as evenly as it would if both of your lips were the same colour might be slightly tricker, but not impossible. You might have to use different shades of lip liner though.
Fuller looking lips have never been made so easily. Are you giving it a go?
