Highlighter can be a real game changer when it comes to bringing the glow, brightening up a tired face, and boosting dull complexions. But the latest micro highlighting trend doing the rounds on TikTok has proven that there’s so much more to highlighter than just a bit of illumination; in fact, it can lift your face just as well as it can add radiance.
The micro highlighting trend has always been huge; there are so many different ways to boost the face without going wild with the shiny stuff, and this newest one shows that it’s more versatile than we perhaps first thought.
Originally shared on TikTok by @beauty_lana_ the technique involves taking a white pen to certain areas of your face, drawing lines in an upwards direction in four places. This is supposed to make the face appear more ‘lifted’ and in the process help you to look brighter, tighter, and a little more awake. Sounds good to us.

Since sharing the OG video, other TikTok beauty users have been giving this a go, and to pretty rave reviews.
@rachelocoolmua for example, told her followers: “I thought i had micro highlighting down but there have been some developments,” before giving the technique a go.
She explains she can definitely see a difference, with the only downside being that by by contrast to the brighter areas, the under-eyes look a little sallow and dark.
@kkrystalmarie also gives the micro highlighting trend a go, with dazzling results. She uses the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, which unfortunately seems to be sold out at most UK retailers, but something similar can always be found.

The About-Face Shadowstick Matte Eyeshadow Stick in Oxide, for example, looks like it would be perfect for this.
Urban Decay’s Glide-On Eye Pencil in Yeyo also looks like it could work well. In short, all you need is a white pencil or formula of some sort, preferably one that has a pearlescent finish to bring that sheen.
