This Morning was pulled from ITV’s schedule on Tuesday morning after Rishi Sunak was appointed the nation’s new leader. Former Prime Minister Liz Truss made a speech at 10.15am and Sunak is due to make his own statement at 11.35am. The key Government updates fall during This Morning’s regular broadcasting hours, between 10am and 12.30pm, which is why it has been cancelled.
The daytime talk show has been cancelled in favour of rolling news coverage about Sunak’s first day in office.
Good Morning Britain aired at its usual time slot, between 6am and 9am, with presenter Susanna Reid reporting outside Downing Street.
However, the ITV News Special is running from 10am until 12.30pm in place of This Morning.
Truss appeared outside Number 10 at about 10.15 am as expected where she gave a speech about her 44 days in office as the leader of the Conservative Party.
Many This Morning viewers were upset the programme was cancelled and they expressed their disappointment on Twitter.
@Londonlad1966 penned: “This Morning is more important, more interesting, more enjoyable, more entertaining, more fun than Downing Street and the Government and This Morning should not have been cancelled, roll on Wednesday’s show.”
Olivia Hewitt agreed, adding: “I’d rather watch This Morning than ITV news. They’re just ramming this down our throats. At least you can have a laugh when This Morning is on.”
Bradley Simmons asked: “Why couldn’t they move the show to ITV2 and still have it on?”
