Similar to The Row, another label that’s mastered the understated bag, Métier’s styles come largely unadorned, and come with a tiny logo that you could blink and miss. Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, is even a fan. It didn’t take long, then, for the brand’s sleek designs to capture the attention of Succession’s costume design team. The bags first made several appearances in season three, including a scene where Logan deboards his private plane (you can see his bodyguard, Colin, carrying his Métier top-handle bag). This season, in episodes three and five, you can catch characters such as Frank, Gerri, and Karolina all carrying Métier’s most popular Incognito and Perriand styles.
The bags aren’t cheap. At roughly $1,000 and up, they’re certainly an investment piece—so it only feels fitting that Succession’s billionaire Roy family would own then. “I always say Métier is designed for people who have plenty to say, and nothing to prove,” says Morris of her clientele. “They do not want big logos—they have enough to say for themselves.” While seeing her bags on the show is something that the designer describes as “surreal,” it’s a sighting that she agrees is a natural fit. “These characters are so iconic. and it is such a pinch-me-moment whenever I see my work land on screen,” says Morris, whose bags have also appeared on other HBO shows such as The Undoing. “I could hardly believe it when I saw my bags appearing on [The Undoing]—I had no idea! It was a bit of a game-changer for us as a brand. I will never forget that moment.”
