The island of Sicily in southern Italy is one of the country’s top tourist destinations, and now it is offering visitors the chance to stay an extra night for free.

The region’s president hopes the initiative will boost quality tourism by encouraging vacationers to stay longer.

The scheme, named “See Sicily,” follows the lead of other Italian cities like La Spezia in extending holidaymakers’ stays for free.

How can you stay a night in Sicily for free?

Visitors that have booked a minimum three-night stay on the island are eligible for the free night.

Details on how to register are on the Visit Sicily website. There is also a complete list of the affiliated accommodation facilities that are participating in the scheme.

Discounted airfares to Sicily

The initiative is also offering visitors reductions on their airline tickets and discounts on activities.

As part of the free night package, tourists are granted a free excursion or guided tour of their choice.

As an added incentive, visitors traveling to Sicily by plane or ferry are entitled to a 50% discount on their ticket. This applies to national and international flights or ferries.

For national and European flights, the maximum discount is set at €100 ($108), while flights from outside of Europe go up to €200 ($217).

When is the offer valid?

To take advantage of the scheme, visitors should make their trip by September 30, 2023. The incentive package is unavailable during the peak season months of July and August.

The offer is limited and likely to run out, so those interested should book as soon as possible.
