False lashes at the ready? You might want to read this first. We have many things to thank TikTok for (not least introducing us to Addison Rae) and it’s fast becoming the home of beauty hacks. Especially when it comes to our lovely eyelashes.
Over the past six months we’ve learned how to create the perfect cut crease using an eyelash curler, how to create fluffy and thick eyelashes; and how to use an eyelash curler to craft the sharpest winged eyeliner. Yep, when it comes to our lashes, we’re willing to try (almost) anything.
And TBH, you can’t blame us. A set of perfectly coiffed false lashes have the power to save any bad makeup day. You know, those days when your eyebrows just don’t look right. They’re also pretty impactful on their own; ever noticed how many compliments you get when you’re wearing them? Love that for us.
Perhaps the main difficulty with false lashes (aside from not getting glue everywhere), is making them fit the natural curve of your eyelashes. If they don’t align nicely with your lash shape, they risk looking a bit blunt and unnatural.
Luckily, we have the solution. Makeup Artist Kevin Kodra took to TikTok to share his failsafe hack for making false lashes look natural – as well as impactful. The trick? Curl your false lashes using an eyelash curler before application.
He explained, “One of my biggest makeup pet peeves is when I see someone wearing lashes and they’re sticking straight out instead of upwards.”
Kevin then explained the steps you need to take to achieve the look:
“First I want you to grab your fake lash and a lash curler. I want you to put the base of the lash right in the lash curler and start pressing it together – and don’t be afraid to put some force into this.”
He added, “I’ve literally done this in-front of clients and they’ve literally looked at me and said ‘Wait, I didn’t know you could do that’ – of course you can babe! And it’s going to completely change the way your lashes look.”
Kevin then applied false lashes to each eye: one straight-outta-the-packet and one curled. You can check out the result here:
Most fans were in agreement about the false eyelash hack, with one writing, “The way that my skin itches when I see straight lashes!!!! I ALWAYS tell girls to stay AWAY!”
However some are still backing the straight lash look, with one commenting, “For some reason I just love the straight-ish look […] I feel like it looks kinda sultry if that makes sense?”
Kevin replied, “Ok yah I agree, sometimes it’s hot, like the bedroom eye vibe. But sometimes I see them completely dragging girls eyes down.”
