The first Thom Browne game took place back in 2014. In the years since, it has become an event amongst fashion-philes–one post on my Instagram featuring a football triggered a dozen replies asking if I was at the “TB football game”–because of how uniquely it brings together a marketing opportunity (it’s tied to a capsule collection) and the fashion community orbiting the brand. Up until now, the game featured an array of editors, models, and celebrities. This year, given that the location was the South Quad of the Notre Dame campus, the school’s students took on the roles of players, spectators, and cheerleaders, wearing a collection grounded in classic all-American varsity prep.
Imagined in light gray, white, khaki, and navy, the capsule features brand icons like sack jackets and pleated skirts alongside long-sleeved striped rugby polos, waffle-knit long johns, high-top canvas sneakers, and shorts. Cashmere thick-gauge waffle-knit beanies, scarves, and cardigans round out the assortment, together with a down-filled parka, inspired by the swim robes Browne used to wear–the MVP of the capsule, in my opinion.
