Thomas Tuchel has welcomed Mason Mount’s passion and fire after he vowed to inflict revenge on Liverpool after Chelsea secured their place in the FA Cup final.

England international Mount will be desperate to end his run of five successive defeats in Wembley finals when Chelsea meet Liverpool on May 14.

The 23-year-old was on target during Chelsea’s 2-0 semi-final win over London rivals Crystal Palace at the weekend as the Blues reached a third successive FA Cup final at the expense of Patrick Vieira’s Eagles.

Awaiting Chelsea in the final is Liverpool, who downed Premier League title rivals Manchester City in the first semi-final of the weekend, ensuring their hopes of securing a stunning quadruple this season are still alive.

Liverpool clinched their first piece of silverware of the campaign when they beat Chelsea on penalties in the EFL Cup final in February.

Mount, who is desperate to help European champions Chelsea avoid suffering a trophy-less season, said: ‘It’s definitely time for us to win a final at Wembley.

‘For me it is five finals, so we have to put the pressure on us to step up. We remember those defeats and now it is time to get payback.’

Asked about Mount’s comments at his pre-Arsenal press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Tuchel said: ‘Good. Yeah, good! Of course we feel it [the need to get revenge].

‘The Carabao Cup final was so close; it wasn’t last season or two years ago. It was a few weeks ago we lost in the same stadium on a pretty similar occasion.

‘Now it is an even bigger cup. Of course, it’s a traditional cup, it has these similarities and of course, it seems like you can come back.

‘That’s what it’s about in sports: if you lost against a team on such short notice it feels a bit like, “come on, let’s turn things around quickly”.

‘If you call it revenge or something else, it doesn’t matter. But we all have this competitive feeling. That’s clear.’

For now, Chelsea must focus their efforts on securing third-place in the Premier League behind title rivals Man City and Liverpool.

On Wednesday night, the Blues face an Arsenal side who have lost three games in a row to slip outside of the top-four places.

Tuchel expects club-record signing Romelu Lukaku to be involved against the Gunners, despite the Belgian missing big chances in Chelsea’s recent games against Real Madrid and Crystal Palace.

‘Rom should maybe have had a goal, but he’s missing the luck,’ Tuchel said. ‘It’s an option that he starts – maybe he can’t play 90 minutes, but maybe 60.’
