Even if you put that issue aside, it’s hard to see where Lukaku would go if his second spell at Chelsea ends in tears. He effectively burned his bridges with Inter Milan when he inked his mega-money transfer in the summer; something that even his remarkably ill-advised interview, where he paid tribute to Inter and heavily hinted at return in the future, has failed to remedy.
Quite simply, this move has to work for both Lukaku and Tuchel. So, it’s imperative for the Blues boss to find a solution.
Lukaku made a blistering start to life back in England, netting four times in as many games.
But since then, he’s faded into obscurity and has struggled to make an impact during Chelsea’s domestic collapse.
It’s time for Tuchel to cease taking shots at his misfiring striker and, instead, set about finding a remedy to the Blues attacking problems.
