Thor Bjornsson Is Open To Fighting Mike Tyson Or Tyson Fury

Former world’s strongest man Thor Bjornsson has been praised as “technically sound” ahead of his fight against Eddie Hall next year.

The pair, who have both won the iconic strongman contest in the past, will compete in ‘the heaviest boxing match in history’ next March, but there have been fears raised for Hall’s safety.

Bjornsson has competed three times in exhibition and amateur bouts against arm wrestling star Devon Larratt and veteran boxers Simon Vallily and Steven Ward, while minimal footage of Hall boxing has become available.

He has been sparring with highly-touted prospect Johnny Fisher, but the brief footage that has been made public has concerned Commonwealth games gold medalist Alex Arthur.

The former WBO featherweight world champion was impressed by Bjornsson’s footage but has raised issue with the match-making that would put the two against one another.

“Just seen big Eddie Hall punch a bag,” Arthur told his 23,000+ followers.

“They actually can’t let him fight Thor. He might get badly hurt! Boxing is a life and death sport. People playing it is stupid.”

And when a fan responded with footage of Bjornsson looking unimpressive from an April training session, before the Vallily and Larratt bouts, he responded that he still has solid fundamentals.

“No one is comparing him to the heavyweight champion of the world.,” Arthur responded after the fan told him he was ‘no Tyson Fury’. “He is technically sound here.”

Bjornsson has completely reinvented himself as a boxer, dropping over 100lb from his strongman days and boasting a shredded physique.

He signed up for the sport to face Hall back in 2020, with the plan being to stage the bout the following year giving the pair enough time to lose weight and train.

But he appears to have made much bigger strides, looking solid against veterans Ward and Vallily before completely dismantling the beginner Larratt.

His full name is Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, and he joked with his followers in a recent Instagram post that due to his monumental weight loss he should now be called “half-Thor.”

And while the giant Icelandic fighter, who also starred in Game of Thrones, isn’t quite Tyson Fury yet, he has said that he would be willing to step into the ring with a world champion for an exhibition to gain experience at the top level.

There have been talks of making a bout between the strongman and former undisputed champion Mike Tyson, which he has said he would be up for if offered.

“I was asked the question if I would fight Mike Tyson,” Bjornsson told Mirror Fighting earlier this year. “And my answer was that I would not say no to that offer.

“This is because of the respect that I have for Mike as a fighter and as an athlete, and I would want to feel his power.

“I would want to step in the ring with him because to be able to tell people that I fought Mike Tyson would be an honour.

“I’m all about experiences, living your life and taking the right opportunities, and if I was offered to fight Mike Tyson then that would be huge for me.

“The same thing happened when I was asked if I would fight Tyson Fury and I said the same thing.

“I would definitely fight him if the opportunity came along, because the experience would be so great.

“I would learn so much from fighting either of those guys, so I just couldn’t say no to that.”
