Three Scots airports among the WORST in the UK for flight cancellations & delays

THREE Scottish airports have been named among the worst in the UK for flight delays.

Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports were all ranked in the top ten on the grounded flights league table following an investigation into 24 leading airports.

Hotel software company HotelTechReport analysed Civil Aviation Authority delay figures on scheduled and chartered flights between January and June this year.

The data showed the number of flights, cancellations and average delays for UK international airports to find which airport is performing worst for cancellations so far this year.

It revealed Aberdeen cancelled a total of 374 out of 11,628 flights in the first six months of the year.

And passengers experienced delays of around 18 minutes on average.

While holidaygoers flying from Glasgow experienced slightly less cancellations and delays of around 15 minutes on average.

And 2.51 per cent of flights were cancelled.

Those taking off from Edinburgh airport experienced delays of around 17 minutes.

And the airport had a total of 628 cancelled flights out of 38,243 in the last six months.

But out of the 24 leading airports across the UK, Southampton came in at the top of the list.

On average, passengers had delays of around 15 minutes and around 5.82 per cent of flights were cancelled.

Teesside International Airport, Exeter and Bournemouth all joint ranked last after suffering the smallest delay times.

A spokesperson from HotelTechReport said, “If your local airport finds itself near the top of this list, combined with all the continued cancellations this year, it might be a wise idea to travel a little bit further to catch your flight abroad.

“Or even make plans for your ideal staycation later this year or into 2023.

“Even looking at where you can expect delays is useful to help you prepare your itinerary with more factors in mind.”
