Price of gas jumps 9 cents
Gas prices in Massachusetts jumped 9 cents in the past week landing at $3.48 in the latest AAA survey.
The price at the pump is 22 cents higher than a month ago, driven largely by a rise in the price of crude oil. However, a recent easing in the price per barrel could translate eventually to lower prices of gas.
“The recent surge in oil costs took a break last week, with the price of oil tumbling back into the upper $70s per barrel,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. “If this oil price trend continues, drivers may see falling gas prices sooner rather than later.”
It could be worse. Last year at this time, gas was 65 cents more expensive per gallon, averaging $4.13. Massachusetts is also paying less than other areas around the country. According to this week’s survey, the price of gas in the Bay State is about 18 cents lower than the national average.
