TikTok is losing it over this clip by Lil Nas X, including Avril Lavigne, Jack Harlow & Olivia Rodrigo

This week, Lil Nas X received the ‘Innovator of the Year’ award at Variety‘s 2021 Hitmakers Brunch, and he was quite literally surrounded by musical stars left, right, and centre. Never one to miss an opportunity to make a viral TikTok, the star enlisted a whole host of celeb pals to create an epic clip that’s now gone viral for all the right reasons. 

Featuring  Olivia Rodrigo, Jack Harlow, Normani, Tinashe, Anitta, Avril Lavigne, and Chloe Bailey, the video has racked up over 36 million views and nearly 9 million views. Not bad for a 12 second clip, huh?!

The video sees the stars lip sync to a viral sound by TikTok account @sidetalknyc which sees people from the streets of New York interviewed about random subjects. The sound includes the iconic ‘Bing Bong’ catchphrase, which was taken from the online series, and is now synonymous with the New York Knicks basketball team. 

Unsurprisingly, fans absolutely lost their mind at the seemingly random group of celebrities that had joined together to make this one work for Lil Nas X. 

“The most random group of celebs but I’m here for it,” wrote one user, whose comment already has a cool 324,000 likes. 

Many were especially surprised to see Avril Lavigne, with comments including: “I’m just shocked Avril was in this,” along with glee over her seemingly ageless appearance: “Avril doesn’t age and I’m obsessed.”

All in all though, the video has gone down a treat, with some suggesting it is “the tiktok version of the oscar selfie,” in the comments. 

“This is it. There will never be a more iconic TikTok,” read one last comment. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!

Variety‘s musical event also honoured Jack Harlow for ‘Hitmaker of Tomorrow’, Lana Del Rey for the Decade Award, and Olivia Rodrigo for ‘Songwriter of the Year’, as well as brother and sister duo Finneas and Billie Eilish for ‘Best Film Song of the Year’.
