The 62-year-old actress was told to wear one ‘at all times’, but she’s now said she’ll do nothing of the sort.
The We Need to Talk About Kevin star is set to jet off to Ireland for filming in the coming months, but she won’t be bringing a mask, as the actress insisted she was ‘full of antibodies and very healthy’ having contracted the virus on a number of occasions.
Speaking as part of her keynote speech at the SXSW Film and TV Festival on Monday, she said: ‘I’m about to shoot a picture in Ireland, and I was told to wear a mask at all times, and I’m not.
‘I’m sure this is being recorded. I’ve had Covid-19 multiple times so I’m full of antibodies and very healthy.’
In 2022, the Academy Award-winning actress explained that while she had got off ‘relatively lightly’ with the virus, she suffered with memory problems and vertigo as a result.
She said: ‘I was coughing like an old gentleman who smoked a pipe for 70 years, and had nasty vertigo. I got off relatively lightly, but the worst thing is how it affected my brain.
‘I did two films that I had to learn a lot of text for. I’m normally quite quick at studying, and picking stuff up, but this was like chewing a really big piece of gum.
‘I couldn’t remember my lines. [I have recovered] More or less, but I’m still forgetting things. I have to work my brain!’
Tilda’s upcoming movies include David Fincher’s The Killing, a thriller she will star in alongside Michael Fassbender, which is set to be released in November.
In June, Asteroid City will also be released; a Wes Anderson romantic comedy drama, in which there will be – fittingly to the title – countless big stars alongside Tilda, including Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Maya Hawke, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Carrell and Rupert Friend.
It is not clear on the set of which film Tilda plans on ignoring Covid protocol.
This comes after a study revealed the mental health toll of the pandemic could be less severe than originally predicted.
According to the World Health Organisation, as of March 7 a total of 8,691 people have died from Covid in Ireland since the start of the pandemic.
