Timothée Chalamet and Kyle Jenner aren’t just “hanging out” anymore. The 20somethings made it clear that they are the hot new celebrity couple by displaying their hots for each other at Beyonce’s performance Monday night in her final Los Angeles stop on her Renaissance World Tour.
In a video shared on social media, the “Dune” star and the cosmetics mogul were seen standing together in a VIP box at SoFi Stadium. Sometimes, Chalamet puffed on a cigarette while Jenner laughed beside him. Other times, they were visibly affectionate, wrapping their arms around each other and kissing multiple times, while enjoying Beyonce’s music.

Some, of course, think they make a cute couple. But, by attending the star-studded spectacle Monday night, Chalamet showed that he was more than Jenner’s new boyfriend, as he hung out in the same VIP area as Jenner’s mother, Kris Jenner, and sisters, Kim and Khloe Kardashian. The Academy Award-nominated heartthrob also demonstrated that he has entered “the Kardashian vortex,” as the Lainey Gossip site put it. This vortex refers to the whirling mass of global fame, controversy, personal commodification and self-promotion that surrounds Jenner and her family.
By entering this vortex, as Elaine Lui said when Bad Bunny began dating Kylie’s sister, Kendall, “there is a price.” The biggest price being that, “well, nothing is ever a secret. Everything is worth trade,” Lui said.
Maybe, Chalamet won’t be that phased by the lack of privacy, but he should expect that he’ll at least end up in an upcoming season or two of “The Kardashians,” the family’s Hulu reality TV show. Of course, how much Chalamet figures into the show probably will depend on how long his relationship with Jennifer lasts.
The Kardashian women aren’t known to hold back from dishing on their relationship highs and lows on the show, and in ways that work to their advantage. Kim Kardashian spent part of the most recent season trying to distance herself from the noxious, unhinged behavior of her ex-husband Kanye West by venting about his antisemitic rants which got him canceled by much of American society.
As for Kylie Jenner, she enjoys her own notoriety on the family’s reality TV show and off. Chalamet’s new girlfriend is known for being an influencer who allegedly pretended to be a self-made billionaire. She’s also been accused of cultural appropriation; engages in apparent social media feuds with other female influencers; throws over-the-top birthday parties for her two young children; uses her daughter, Stormi, for marketing products; and found a way to duck out on her ex-boyfriend Travis Scott’s November 2022 concert when people were getting trampled to death.
Now that Chalamet and Jenner have made their public debut as a couple, the actor, who is considered one of the finest actors of his generation, might want to be reminded of the Kardashian curse. It’s the belief that the Kardashian-Jenner sisters have been bad luck to many of the men they’ve been involved with, with the men’s lives falling into disarray or scandal during their high-profile relationships with the sisters or soon thereafter, as Elle reported.
Sure, it might be one of the conspiracy theories that’s probably a made-up social media phenomenon. Then again, it’s been borne out in the tumultuous outcomes for a number of these men, Elle said. That includes Scott, who will forever be associated with the deaths at his Astroworld Festival concert in Houston. While the rapper was not held criminally responsible for the incident, he remains a defendant in several lawsuits.
Chalamet is no stranger to intense media focus. He found international recognition and became the internet’s latest favorite boyfriend when he played the role of a lovestruck teenager in the 2017 coming-of-age drama, “Call Me by Your Name.” He earned an Academy Award nomination for best actor, and has enjoyed more memorable roles in such acclaimed films as “Lady Bird” and “Little Women.” He also was the star of the long-anticipated big-budget remake of “Dune.”
But Hollywood observers say that Chalamet is at a bit of a career cross-roads right now, and there might be some Chalamet fatigue going around on social media. While dating Kylie Jenner is sure to raise his profile even more, his association with the polarizing Kardashians could erode his favored status among cinephiles who have lofty ideas about creativity and art.
Last month, Chalamet also was at the center of social media uproar after the first trailer for “Wonka” was released, showing how the actor will play the eccentric chocolate maker in Hollywood’s newest version of the Roald Dahl children’s book, according to Mashable. “Wonka” is due for a major release in December.
By playing the chocolate maker in his origin story, Chalamet stepped on people’s beloved memories of Gene Wilder, who originated the role in 1971, and Johnny Depp’s divisive turn in the 2005 film. People online mostly grumbled that Chalamet is “wrong for the role” and had been woefully miscast, Mashable reported.
If “Wonka” doesn’t rake in a lot money or critical acclaim, Chalamet could bear a lot of the blame. Meanwhile, he also has to be worried about the effect of the Hollywood actors and writers’ strikes on his upcoming products.
If the SAG-AFTRA actors strike isn’t settled by December, Chalamet won’t be able to attend premiers or do any interviews or social media on behalf of “Wonka.” Because SAG-AFTRA bars actors from promoting new works, Chalamet’s other big-budget release this fall, “Dune: Part Two,” also was pushed back to March 2024 from its original release on Nov. 3.
With no movies to promote right now, and no film shoots to report to, Chalamet’s schedule has probably been freed up a bit. That means he could have time to spend with his new girlfriend, but it remains to be seen how much he’ll immerse himself in the Kardashian vortex.
