Catholic Charities says it is assisting 1,500 individuals and families who have recently arrived in New York. The organization is working the city to establish a reception center to help meet the growing need.
“As New Yorkers, we figure out how to expand our capacity to meet the newcomers. We don’t see this as merely a local problem; it’s a national problem, and as a nation, we need to deal with the crisis we are dealing with,’ said Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, the executive director of Catholic Charities.
The reception center is expected to open on Aug. 25.
