In this week’s latest instalment of pointless TikToks that have gone viral, two women in their 20s had the audacity to call the clientele of a club they visited as old.
These so-called senior citizens were 35.
Admittedly, when I’m rubbing shoulders somewhere noisy with Gen Zs and daydreaming about the book on my nightstand while hoping everyone without jackets are warm enough, I likely fit the stereotype they’re casting over millennials.
So it was with slight trepidation I headed into the CBD on a busy Friday night.
If you too are checking the 35+ age bracket on your medical forms, I’m happy to announce Tiny’s in the QV1 building is a safe space for you, with people across all of the age brackets enjoying a beverage and meal without looking out of place.
It’s a welcoming and stylish space, bustling and loud as people toast the end of the working week, with a rooftop garden where bits and pieces are pulled for its menu which also incorporates wood-fired and South American flavours.
Many diners are also drawn specifically for its succulent rotisserie chicken. Having had this a few times prior (it’s very good), we tried a few small plates, as well as opted for a wood-fired option.
The empanadas ($16) were the highlight of the meal and I’ll be willing to leave my book at home for another night to enjoy them again. Filled with pulled chicken and black turtle bean and feta, with some pickled cabbage salad on the side, they were crunchy, rich in flavour and left you wanting more.
The cauliflower ($28) on a macadamia puree with salsa macha looked like it was going to reach all of the highs a roasty cauli would. It got close, but fell a little short as it was only lukewarm and didn’t have the super crunchy or big flavours that we hoped.
Grilled provoleta ($24) with gremolata, burnt orange, pickled onion served with toast was another winner. Eat it quickly while the cheese is hot and can be oozed away from the warm pan, or wait for it to cool and scrape the burnt bits for an edge of lasagne-type vibe.
Lastly, the roasted beetroot with Brussels sprouts with pasilla and tamarin glaze ($21) was a mix of very well-cooked veggies pimped with slightly sweet flavours and fresh herbs.
There was a slight slip up with some drinks; after waiting around 20 minutes we gently reminded our otherwise efficient waiter, which was quickly rectified within the minute.
So whether you’re 20, 80 or feel somewhere in between, this is the ideal spot to eat, drink and feel whatever darn age you want!
