The veteran off-spinner reviewed a review during the 13th over of the Trichy innings. Yes, you read it right. On the final ball of the over from Ashwin, a caught behind appeal was given out by the on-field umpire before Trichy batter Rajkumar reviewed the decision straightaway.

The third umpire checked all angles and came to the conclusion that there was a gap between the bat and all. As soon as the umpire overturned his decision, Ashwin signalled for a review and the on-field umpire again had to send the decision upstairs to the third umpire. The 36-year-old cricketer also broke into an argument with the umpires.
The third umpire again followed the protocol and calmly explained that the spike on the snicometer was due to the bat hitting the turf, adding that there was a clear gap between the ball and bat.

“DRS is new in the tournament. There was a spike just before the ball passed the bat. I was not quite happy, I thought they’d see with a different angle,” Ashwin explained his decision to review to a review after Dindigul Dragons six-wicket win over Ba11SY Trichy.
However, fans slammed the Tamil Nadu cricketer for his bizarre action. “Behaving like Shakib does in BPL. Thinking he owns the league!” wrote one fan reacting to the viral video of the incident.
“Ashwin once again in the spotlight by reviewing a decision already reviewed by a TV umpire & given not out. Why would anyone review the TV umpires decision, as that decision is final,” wrote another.
Third umpire S Nishaanth was praised for sticking to his decision and explaining his decision calmly despite it getting challenged in a bizarre fashion. A few fans suggested that he should have been on duty for the World Test Championship final (WTC) which brought the third umpire in focus after giving Shubman Gill out on a controversial catch from Cameron Green.
“Terrific Decision by TV Umpire Nishaanth, held his nerve and was so clear on articulating the things beautifully as it happened! Right decision has been made even if you review that 1000 times lol! Very well done Excellent Brilliant Fantastic TV Umpire,” a fan wrote praising the umpire.
