Selena Gomez is a red carpet veteran, with a pretty plethora of hair and makeup looks to appease our beauty-obsessed eye.
Starting her career at just 10 years old, we first met the star as a fresh-faced member of the Barney & Friends gang before she took to a starring role on the Wizards of Waverly Place. As Selena’s career continued to evolve, so did her beauty looks, and the young actress began to experiment with her makeup and hair, adding streaks of red into her lengths and stepping out on the red carpet with sophisticated smokey eyes and glowing skin.
More recently, Selena has shown her penchant for blonde hair, rocking everything from balayage to a bleached bob, while always keeping her makeup classic, whether it be a bold red lip or long, fluttering lashes.
But an advocate of looking beyond beauty, Selena has absolutely no qualms discussing unrealistic beauty standards as well as how she deals with cruel trolls.
She previously took to Instagram to say: “The beauty myth – an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern women in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfil society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty. I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone. Wind in her sails.” Wise words, Sel.
The star has also recently launched her very own beauty line, Rare Beauty, which is named after her third studio album.
“Rare Beauty isn’t about how other people see you — it’s about how you see yourself,” she revealed on Instagram Live. “I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other and to start embracing our own uniqueness. You are not defined by a photo, a like, or a comment.”
“I wanted to make a brand where you feel comfortable,” she added. “I think people feel the pressure — I know I do — where you kind of feel like you need to look like everyone else… Sometimes that can feel a bit isolating.”
“I want it to be real — real stories, real people, a place where people can feel they are in a community and not feel pressure to look like anything but themselves.” Preach.
In celebration of Selena’s 30th birthday, we’ve rounded up her best beauty looks, from Disney princess to fully-fledged Hollywood starlet.
