Today is 7/11, a day revered by all slushy-drink lovers.
To celebrate the date and the company’s 95th anniversary, 7-Eleven stores will again hold Free Slurpee Day, giving out small Slurpees from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. (or until the machines run dry).
You must be a new or current 7Rewards loyalty club member to take advantage of the offer. The coupon will be added to your account.
While you’re sipping, here are some fun facts from the 7-Eleven website:
— If you’re a kid at heart with a long memory, you’ll recall that the ICEE predated the Slurpee. According to Wikipedia, 7-Eleven purchased the ICEE technology invented by Omar Knedlik in Kansas.
— The 7-Eleven company was founded in 1927 by “Uncle Johnny” Jefferson Green, who started selling goods folks might need every day from the dock of an ice house in Dallas.
— The name 7-Eleven was adopted in 1946 to reflect the chain’s hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Nowadays, most are open 24/7.
