Today’s Wordle #540 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, December 11th

Do you hear that folks? That’s the sound of Christmas closing in. Jingle Bells and reindeer hooves mucking up your shingles. The mad cackle of elves in the nippy gloaming air. Winter is coming.

A part of me wishes that Christmas came later on in the season. I’m a big fan of Christmas (especially since I have kids who love Christmas and that makes it fun) but it lands right at the beginning of winter and I feel like we need it more a month or so later.

I guess it makes sense that it falls right when the days are the shortest of the year—it’s a festival of lights, after all. But late January into February is always so cold, so wintry—it always feels a little bleak. Maybe we just need another festival of lights then. Maybe something fire-themed.

Is it too late to create holidays? Can we do that still? Just create feast days and festival days and try to get the wider culture to adopt them?

In any case, Christmas is two weeks away. Literally 14 days from now Santa will be squeezing his behind back up your chimney—or out your heating vent or whatever—and your kids will be waking up earlier than they have all year and you’ll be pouring that first glass of heavily spiked eggnog while still in your pajamas. It’ll be fun!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle (Spoilers!)

The Hint: Young, foolish, idealistic.

The Clue: This word has more vowels than consonants.

The Answer:

Well damn. I lost again. Wordle Bot guessed slate (of course and then followed that up with cairn of all words. How lucky is that? Not much of a leap to go from cairn to today’s Wordle, naïve.

I suppose I was naïve to think I might win. Sigh. The sad thing is, my guesses were pretty good. I just didn’t narrow it down enough in #2. Prone got me all the way down to 39 and blade slashed that (heh) down to just 5. But 1/5 is still bad odds, and anime was an optimistic fail.

I considered naïve for that guess, but went with the word I thought was more fun. Oh well! You gotta follow your heart, as they say. And my heart said ‘anime.’
