The answer to today’s Wordle puzzle is label. As we mentioned earlier, it’s a common word — so common, in fact, that it’s in the top 1% of English words people look up in the dictionary. The word often refers to “a slip (as of paper or cloth) inscribed and affixed to something for identification or description,” according to Merriam-Webster. Per the same source, the solution can also mean a descriptive or identifying word or phrase, as well as an adhesive stamp. The word has roots in Middle English “labelle,” which itself is of Anglo-French origin, although its original meaning is unknown.
We solved the puzzle in five tries today, even though we obeyed the WordleBot and chose crane as the starter word. We followed up with the words gleam (which is similar to yesterday’s solution word), fetal, and easel, by which time we were already four guesses in. Hopefully, you’ll turn all your tiles green in fewer tries than that because of this article.
