The solution to today’s Wordle puzzle (#610 – February 19, 2023) is “kiosk.” You’ll probably be familiar with the word as the term for a small retail shop, but it originally referred to a kind of open pavilion or summerhouse, popular in Turkey or Persia and typically built on a multi-sided base. The American Heritage Dictionary reports that elite classes of the Ottoman Empire used this kind of structure to enjoy entertainment and other leisurely activities.
Per Merriam-Webster, the term kiosk entered the English language from the French word “kiosque,” which referred to structures resembling the Turkish pavilions but used as booths to sell newspapers, derived from the original word “köşk” or Persian “kūshk.”
It took us four tries to crack the code today, which means our three-try solve streak is lost again. We chose the word “skull” as the starting word, and it turned two tiles yellow and cut down possible answers to just eleven. Considering there are about 2,315 words in the Wordle answer pool, that was a really lucky start. After guessing “flask” and “brisk,” the answer was clear. We hope you finish faster.
