With reports emerging that Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen’s marital problems have been going on for years, largely due to his career in the NFL, it’s looking like the reputed, greatest-of-all-time quarterback hasn’t been so winning in his personal life.
“(The problems) are 10 years old,” someone close the estranged couple told People Friday. “This has been going on forever. This is nothing new to either of them.”
TMZ also reported that Bündchen, 42, has been threatening the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star, 45, with divorce for years with his prolonged football career being the main source of her frustration. In the past, the couple managed to work through their difficulties, but Bündchen now “is done” with trying to make the marriage work, a source told People Friday.
“She is done with their marriage,” an insider close to Bündchen told People. “She was upset about it for a long time and it’s still difficult, but she feels like she needs to move on. She doesn’t believe that her marriage can be repaired.”
While there have been mixed reports as to why Bündchen appears to finally be pushing for divorce, she has been pretty public about her concerns with Brady playing football.
Going back to 2017, the supermodel repeatedly expressed concerns about the San Mateo native suffering a concussion playing such a “violent,” “aggressive” sport.

Reports also have said that Bündchen was angry that her husband reneged on his announcement to retire from the sport after last season in order to spend more time with his family. The couple share two children — son Benjamin, 12, and 9-year-old daughter Vivian, along with Brady’s son, John Edward, 15, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.
Expecting that Brady would be home more, Bündchen had talked about wanting to restart her highly lucrative fashion career and her work as an environmentalist after stepping back professionally to raise their children.
In an interview published last month in Elle magazine, Bündchen said, “It’s going to be my turn. It’s not like I’m going to be in the valley forever.”
It seems that Brady has been so distracted by football that he ignored the festering troubles in his marriage, including the fact that his wife had hired a divorce attorney, according to Lainey Gossip.
The couple has been living apart the past several months, as Brady returned to play this season with the Buccaneers, the New York Post reported. Bündchen has yet to attend any of his games.
The breakdown of Brady’s marriage has left him feeling “very hurt,” as well as on the defense, People also reported. The former New England Patriots quarterback has been forced to hire an attorney himself.
“She is the one steering the divorce,” a source told People. “She is playing offense and he is playing defense. He wants to protect himself, protect his interests, but he’s only starting to go the legal route in his defense from her. He doesn’t want this to be ugly, he doesn’t want to fight. If the divorce is happening — and it seems like it is — he wants it to go as smoothly as possible.”
The source said that Brady’s marital issues are especially difficult for him to cope with, given that he’s such a phenomenally successful athlete who is used to winning. Over more than two decades, Brady has played in 10 Super Bowls, led his teams to seven victories and holds various records for NFL quarterbacks.
“Think about it: Tom has had a very charmed life,” the source said. “Things always seem to go his way. He works hard, he’s a good guy, he hasn’t had a lot of things go wrong in his life. This is awful for him. You can tell that this really, really hurts.”
A Page Six source expressed surprise that the couple’s fight over Brady’s return to the NFL “would be the end of them, but it looks like it is.”
The source added gravely: “I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”
