Tom Cruise ‘begs studio executives to move Oppenheimer for Mission: Impossible’

Tom Cruise is gearing up to start promoting his new thriller, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, but he has hit a snag.

The picture, which has been filmed with IMAX cameras, will hit cinemas on July 12 and will have exclusive use of IMAX cinemas throughout the following week.

But when Oppenheimer hits cinemas after that, it will reportedly have a three-week exclusive run in all IMAX screens.

As a result, Puck claims Cruise has been “getting studio executives on the phone” to try and convince them to shorten Oppenheimer’s three-week tenure.

The source told the publication that Cruise has “expressed his extreme displeasure” with the situation.

Cruise’s reported frustration is likely down to the ticket prices of the IMAX screenings.

A long run in these premium seats would gross a substantial amount more revenue for his enormous movie.

Mission: Impossible 7 has a reported budget of $290 million, plus whatever marketing costs are added on top as the release window draws nearer.

Meanwhile, Oppenheimer will likely not do as well as M:I7 at the box office, as it’s a smaller, character-driven historical fiction piece that deals with some tough subjects.

But Puck claims director Christopher Nolan locked in Oppenheimer’s release date when shooting began, while Mission: Impossible 7 has been delayed, causing its IMAX priority to shift.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits UK cinemas on July 14, 2023.

Oppenheimer comes out July 21, 2023.
