Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley show respect after rematch

Tommy Fury believes he would have stopped Jake Paul had he be in the ring on Saturday night instead of Tyron Woodley.

The Love Island star was originally slated to be Paul’s opponent at the Amalie Arena last weekend, but was forced to pull out of the bout with a broken rib and a chest infection.

And Fury finally broke his silence on the fight today, branding Paul’s performance unimpressive and saying that he would have easily stopped his rival had he been fit to compete.

Woodley was brutally stopped by Paul in the sixth round of an otherwise completely lacklustre fight, and Fury believes neither fighter were more impressive than the 2-26 journeyman he faced in his third professional outing.

“I think he was very lucky that it wasn’t me in there instead of Tyron Woodley,” Fury said in an interview with the Queensberry Promotions YouTube channel.

“Because if it was me in there I honestly believe, I’m trying to give him credit but I just can’t, he wouldn’t have got past the opening bell.

Tommy Fury believes a fight with Paul would be similar to his win over Przemyslaw Binienda

“Let’s have it right, watch that first round and watch the first round of my first fight back from Love Island, is he any better than that guy? He’s not.

“The guy I fought coming out of Love Island had 30 professional boxing bouts and was a kickboxing world champion, be it what it is.”

Fury viciously put away journeyman Przemyslaw Binienda within a round in December of 2019, after spending a considerable portion of the year in the Love Island villa without boxing training.

And he believes that it would have been a similar result had they fought, with the Brit also eager to reschedule the big money fight for next year.

“That’s what I would have done to him because people who come out and don’t do anything, they get put to sleep and Jake Paul didn’t do anything.

“If you watch my first round coming out of Love Island and Jake’s first round, what I did to that man is exactly what I would have done to Jake Paul on Saturday night.

“I’d have been smashing the jabs out there, he doesn’t move his head, and then I would have hit him with the right hand and he wouldn’t have been there.”

But he has insisted that he won’t be waiting on Paul if the American attempts to hardball him in negotiations.

The pair struggled to come to an agreement for their ultimately doomed fight, with a number of issues including money and drug testing standing in the way of a contract.

They eventually signed, but the bout fell through on two weeks’ notice.

“Jake Paul comes across as a guy who holds all the cards,” Fury continued. “But he doesn’t hold any cards.

“I’m not some bum who’s f***ing in desperate need of money and has no life other than Jake Paul.

“He thinks if he doesn’t fight me my life doesn’t go on, but without Jake Paul I live a nice comfortable life.

“I don’t need Jake Paul – when he first started mentioning me I said ‘let’s get in the ring and let’s have it for real’.

“That’s still what’s here, I want Jake Paul in the ring because I want to stop all of this, and that’s the reason he keeps making out like ‘I’m going to fight oh wait I’m not going to fight him’.

“When I pulled out of this fight, Jake Paul couldn’t believe his luck, I bet he had a little celebration party and I’m being deadly serious.”
