Tommy Fury told to listen to bro Tyson as verdict made on Paul rematch

Tommy Fury has been urged to take his brother Tyson’s advice by pursuing influencer boxing, with fans convinced the social media star would dominate Jake Paul in a rematch. Fury defeated Youtuber-turned-boxer Paul by split decision in Saudi Arabia in February in what was perhaps the most hyped up fight between two novices in boxing history.

And Fury agreed to a second bout with Paul after the American confirmed he would activate a rematch clause following huge interest in their successful pay-per-view show.

Fury has followed a conventional boxing path like WBC heavyweight champion Tyson and still has aspirations to win world titles himself – but the Gypsy King believes that, for now, he should continue in the lucrative world of influencer fighting.

When asked after the Paul fight whether his brother should return down the traditional boxing route, Tyson said: “Nah, he’ll be headlining now forever. I’d like to see him fight a rematch with Jake Paul and fight Logan, his brother.”

Former Love Island star Fury was given a cruiserweight ranking by the WBC sanctioning body after extending his pro record to 9-0 with victory over Paul. But the 23-year-old is still hugely inexperienced and is yet to show any signs that he has the future to fight at world level.

As a result, Express readers believe Fury should listen to his superstar brother and stick to fighting social stars. In a poll answered by 2972 voters, 57% said that he should continue pursuing headline crossover fights.

And 84% of voters believe Fury would prove too strong again for Paul in a rematch, which is yet to be announced. There is also confidence that Fury would beat Paul’s long-term rival KSI, with 77% of voters siding with him over the crossover boxer.

It is clear that Fury would earn far bigger paydays in either of these fights than against a boxing professional on a similar trajectory as he maps out the next stage of his career.

But Fury last month revealed that he still has a burning desire to become an acclaimed fighter and leave a lasting legacy in the sport as a world champion.

“I’m still eager to learn, win titles and go down as a proper boxer,” he told BT Sport. “I don’t want to be known as one of these guys who made a lot of money fighting idiots and then retired and left the sport.

“I want to be remembered as Tommy Fury ‘he made great money fighting YouTube stars and then stuck to boxing and retired with a world title’. That’ll be happiness for me and I will achieve it.”
