TORONTO (CTV Network) — What trendy things will we be eating and drinking next year? Predictions for the top 10 food and beverage trends of 2023 were revealed recently by review site Yelp.
According to the crowd-sourced review platform, the top 10 is a reflection of millions of searches for keywords and phrases in 2021 and 2022. The list:
Michelagua, a non-alcoholic version of the popular Mexican drink michelada, a “beer cocktail” made with a variety of juices and spices.
Dirty soda, a combination of soda, cream and flavored syrups that has spawned Utah drive-through chains Swig and Sodalicious.
Hojicha tea, a roasted variety of Japanese green tea.
Slushies, particularly the alcoholic type.
The Suprême, a cronut successor made by Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery in New York’s NoHo district. It’s a circular croissant filled with pastry cream and topped with ganache and crushed cookies.
Pickles and pickle flavoring in everything from martinis to ice cream.
The McRib. The rise in searches, Yelp says, suggests that re-creations of nostalgic snacks could be popular.
Oxtail, a beef cut used in slow-cooked braises and stews.
Underwater restaurants and dinner theaters.
