RIYADH, Dec 7: Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tareq on Tuesday honored the visiting Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Prince Mohammad bin Salman, with Oman First-Degree Order, one of the country’s top medals. Official Oman News Agency said the sultanate grants the award to kings, heads of states, crown princes, heads of governments of countries with which Muscat holds distinguished relations. Sultan Haitham bin Tareq and the Saudi Crown Prince, held earlier on Tuesday official talks at Al-Alam Palace in Oman.

Official Oman News Agency said the Sultan and the Crown Prince explored cooperation in various sectors between the two countries and means of cementing further the brotherly relations that bond peoples of the two states. Moreover, they exchanged views on various issues of common interest, the official news agency said. The Saudi Crown prince started an official visit to the Sultanate on Monday, kicking off a Gulf tour that would include Kuwait. Shortly earlier, the Omani news agency said Sultan Haitham bin Tareq received the Saudi Crown Prince upon his arrival at Al-Alam Palace and accompanied him to the honorary platform amid tunes of the Saudi Royal Al-Salam Anthem and echoes of a 21-gun salute. Sultan Haitham greeted the Crown Prince and the official delegation accompanying him and the Saudi Crown Prince reciprocated in a similar manner.

Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion Qais Al- Yousef inked Tuesday with Saudi Minister of Commerce and Minister of Media Majid Al-Qasabi two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between their two respective nations relating to fields of commerce and standardization. Oman News Agency mentioned in statement that MoU relating to commercial activities stressed on exchanging expertise, protecting national products, developing e-commerce and regulation mechanisms, and marketing research. As for MoU relating to standardization, it affirms the exchange of data and studies as well as collaboration in fields of specifications and quality, additionally, it encourages holding training courses.

Minister Al-Qasabi affirmed that the memorandums seek to bolster commercial exchange between two nations, support businesses and provide exposure to investment opportunities. On his part, Omani official from Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion Mubarak Al-Dohani stated that that memorandum encourages joint economic activities and bolsters commercial exchange. Moreover, Omani official Emad Al- Shakaily stated that MoU relating to standardization aims to guarantee quality of imported goods and boost efficiency of Omani products as well as ensure the safety of the consumer.

The signing came under the framework of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman official visit to Oman. Saudi Arabia and Oman have inked 13 memoranda of understanding to launch joint ventures in diverse sectors. Oman News Agency said, on Monday, that the Omani group Okio inked three MoUs, one in petrochemicals and renewable energy, the other in green hydrogen (with the Saudi company ACWA Power and Abder Product Co.), the second in oil storage with Aramco and the third with Sabic for developing Al-Doqom petrochemical venture. Another MoU was signed by the Omani group Asyad, and the Saudi maritime company and a fifth one involved Minerals Development Oman (MDO) and the Saudi Arabian Mining Company. Moreover, the Omani group Omran inked a memo for investment in tourism with the Saudi Dar Arkan company.

OMNA also noted that the rest of the inked memos covered fish farming and stocks. The Omani Saudi Business Council (OSBC) on Monday discussed the latest developments of forming the sectoral committees between the sides. Ridha Jumaa Al-Saleh, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), said that the meeting, which is the third this year, coincided with the visit of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, to the Sultanate of Oman, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported. The OSBC plays a key role in enhancing and empowering communication between the private sectors of the two countries and all concerned governmental bodies to increase and protect mutual investment and find solutions to challenges facing the investors, he added.
