Tori Spelling certainly looked like she was sending a message about the state of her reportedly troubled marriage by leaving her husband, Dean McDermott, out of the family’s annual holiday card.
Why else would Spelling exclude McDermott from the wholesome farm-themed family photo she released on Instagram Monday? The photo, with the hashtag “#familyiseverything,” shows the 48-year-old “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum holding a chicken while surrounded by their children, Liam, 14, Stella, 13, Hattie, 9, Finn, 8, and Beau, 4. A goat and large pig also appear front and center in the photo.
“It’s that time again. And it’s a winter wonderland at my house,” Spelling wrote in the caption. Us Weekly reported that the chicken, pig and goat belong to Spelling and are not just props for the photo, but as with many of Spelling’s social media posts, the photo is a money-making opportunity for her. She shared the photo as part of the Simply to Impress Christmas card campaign.
The bigger questions about the card of course have to do with McDermott, 55, and whether his absence from the family photo confirms that he and Spelling are headed for divorce.
Spelling and McDermott were married in 2006 and have long been beset by money woes and other crises, including his admitted infidelity.
Breakup rumors erupted about five months ago after each was spotted on separate occasions without their wedding bands, Us Weekly reported. Around that time, Spelling also revealed that she and McDermott had been sleeping in separate beds since he returned home from filming a project overseas.
McDermott tried to downplay divorce rumors in a podcast interview in September when he offered what he seemed to think was a simple explanation for why they weren’t seen wearing their wedding rings, Us Weekly reported.
“I lost my utility ring and then somebody saw that (and said), ‘He doesn’t have his ring,’” McDermott said. He claimed Spelling forgot to put hers back on after washing her hands when she was seen without it. McDermott said: “So, now, everybody’s in a titter, so I’m like, ‘Forget it, I’m not going to replace it. Just let them think it.’”
The breakup rumors gained more momentum in October when Spelling was spotted outside an attorney’s office with documents that read “assets,” “support” and “custody,” Page Six first reported.
A source told Us Weekly at the time that the couple are “always on the verge of divorce” but that Spelling “ends up staying for the kids’ sake.”
Earlier this month, another source told Us Weekly that “there’s no trust” between the two, while a fourth insider said, “It’s gotten really bad and those close to them feel it won’t last much longer.” The couple “can’t stand to be around each other,” the source added, noting there’s “a lot of tension built up.”
