Three years after the release of his latest full-length offering, Outer Peace, Toro y Moi a.k.a Chaz Bear returns with the first two singles from his forthcoming seventh studio album, Mahal.
The announcement of Mahal, a 13-track project which is scheduled to drop on April 29, comes in tandem with a pair of new singles.
“Postman” and “Magazine” arrive alongside music videos directed by Kid. Studio and Arlington Lowel, respectively.
Following the release of 2019’s Outer Peace, Toro y Moi sat down with Complex to speak about his creative process.
When asked how his artistic approach has changed over the past few years, the South Carolina-bred artist explained that he now treats his music “more like a professional job.”
“I wake up and go to the studio everyday at 10 a.m., and almost don’t leave until 14 hours later,” he explained. “That’s not very professional to stay all day, but I don’t know. I do like to get the job done. Once you have a studio, you almost treat it like work or a business and you just make sure… It’s hard for it to not escape your mind, that you’re making a product. You’re making something for the masses and it can’t be so esoteric. So if I’m making some random shit, that’s just for fun and I’m not trying to live off it, then that’s when it’s just whatever. But I definitely like to approach things professionally.”
