Tottenham have stolen a march on rivals Manchester United and Chelsea by agreeing personal terms with Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

The Spaniard has a year remaining on his deal with the Bees and he’s rejected two proposals to extend his contract.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank says Raya is the only player up for sale this summer and the club have made it clear they want £40million to sell the former Blackburn ace.

Raya, for his part, has suggested that his desire to leave Brentford is to play European football.

That’s not something that Tottenham can offer but the club want to replace Hugo Lloris, who could move to Saudi Arabia.

While Spurs are yet to enter into talks with Brentford over a fee for Raya, the fact they’ve agreed personal terms suggests the Spaniard is keen on a move to north London.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen on signing a new goalkeeper but there are other areas of the squad that Chelsea must address first, such as centre forward and central midfield.

Manchester United are yet to agree a new deal with David De Gea, who was to blame for Ilkay Gundogan’s winner in the FA Cup final last week.

The Spaniard is out of contract this summer, and United did not take up an option to extend his deal by 12 months.

Raya is widely recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in the world with his feet, while he’s shown his expertise in the top division with Brentford in the last two seasons.
