Tottenham: Antonio Conte attacks his players, Levy and questions Spurs’ club culture in amazing rant

0

And
after
their
lacklustre
performance,
manager
Antonio
Conte
took
apart
the
players,
owners
and
the
club
as
a
whole
in
an
astonishing
rant.
Conte
said
his
players
were
‘selfish’ and
questioned
the
vision
of
the
club
while
taking
a
dig
at
the
current
owners.

Antonio Conte

Conte
has
been
at
odds
with
the
club
and
is
expected
to
leave
the
North
London
outfit
at
the
end
of
his
current
contract
which
terminates
as
the
season
expires.
But
he
couldn’t
hide
his
frustration
anymore
after
a
series
of
underwhelming
performances
from
his
players.

Selfish
Players

“The
problem
is
that
for
another
time
we
showed
that
we
are
not
a
team,
we
are
11
players
that
go
onto
the
pitch.
I
see
selfish
players,
I
see
players
that
don’t
want
to
help
each
other
and
don’t
put
their
heart,”

Conte
said
after
the
match.

Owners
lack
winning
mentality

The
manager
then
went
on
to
question
the
owners
and
he
feels
the
lack
of
ambition
to
win
trophy
roots
from
the
top
brass
and
that
has
stimulated
the
entire
institution
to
settle
with
moderate
ambitions.

“Because
they
are
used
to
it
here,
they
are
used
to
it.
They
don’t
play
for
something
important.
They
don’t
want
to
play
under
pressure,
they
don’t
want
to
play
under
stress.
It
is
easy
in
this
way.
Tottenham’s
story
is
this:
20
years
the
owner
is
here,
and
they
never
won
something
but
why?”
,
Conte
questioned.

The
disappointing
club
culture

Tottenham
have
just
won
one
Carabao
Cup
in
the
entirety
of
21st
century.
And
Conte
believes
the
club
culture
has
led
to
their
downfall
as
players
are
never
deemed
responsible
for
the
lack
of
results.
Also
he
questioned
their
recruitment
strategy
and
lamented
reporters
for
providing
players
unfair
leeways.

“The
club
has
the
responsibility
for
the
transfer
market,
every
coach
that
stayed
here
has
the
responsibility,”
he
said.
“And
the
players?
The
players?
Where
are
the
players?
In
my
experience,
if
you
want
to
be
competitive,
if
you
want
to
fight,
you
have
to
improve
this
aspect,”

he
added.

Is
Conte’s
contract
situation
playing
a
part
in
the
team’s
performance?
Conte
was
quick
to
dismiss
that,
telling
reporters,

“You
are
finding
an
alibi,
another
alibi.
You
try
to
find
an
excuse
for
the
players.”

We
have
gone
backward:
Conte

The
former
Chelsea
boss
was
brought
in
at
Tottenham
for
an
instant
result,
and
he
delivered
that
last
season
when
Spurs
went
to
finish
in
the
top
four
and
qualify
for
the
Champions
League.
But
this
season
has
been
a
disaster
and
Conte
believes
they
have
taken
a
step
back
in
the
direction.

“If
I
have
to
compare
last
season
and
this
season,
we
have
to
improve,
but
now
we
are
worse
in
this
aspect.
When
you
are
not
a
team,
anything
can
happen,
in
any
moment.
Today
is
the
last
situation,”

he
said.

“Don’t
forget
that
in
FA
Cup
we
lost
to
Sheffield
United,
who
played
with
young
players.
Being
a
team
is
the
most
important
thing.
To
understand
that
we
play
for
the
badge.
We
have
to
play
to
make
our
fans
proud
of
us.
We
have
to
pay
to
show
desire.”

Manager
Change
is
not
the
solution

Tottenham’s
deep
problem
is
multidirectional
and
Conte
believes
the
onus
is
on
everyone
to
change
the
situation
and
dynamic
of
the
club.
He
said
that
only
managerial
change
won’t
bring
them
results
as
players,
owners
and
the
club
itself
have
to
step
up.

“Not
only
the
club,
the
manager
and
the
staff.
The
players
have
to
be
involved
in
this
situation
because
it
is
time
to
change
this
situation
if
Tottenham
want
to
change.
If
they
want
to
continue
in
this
way,
they
can
change
the
manager,
a
lot
of
managers,
but
the
situation
cannot
change.
Believe
me,”

Conte
concluded.
