Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou sets record straight on Harry Kane transfer

Ange Postecoglou is planning to build around Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at Tottenham next season and has told disgruntled supporters to expect goals from his attack-minded team. The Aussie has made it abundantly clear he intends to roll out an expansive style of play in north London with extra emphasis on finishing chances in the final third – which is why a summer transfer for Kane is simply out of the question.

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is desperately trying to entice the England captain into a switch to the Bundesliga but Postecoglou seems confident the 29-year-old frontman will be staying put.

“Hopefully Harry and Sonny score bags of goals and they’re not the only ones,” he said.

“There’s no such thing as an ugly goal, every time that ball crosses the line the emotion that it brings to people, I love.

“It’s still the best part of the game for me. It unites people, it unites strangers, it doesn’t matter who you’re standing next to when the ball goes across that line, that’s who you’re hugging. So hopefully the boys score bags of goals.”

Finding the back of the net was no issue for Spurs last season, who struck 70 times in 38 Premier League matches but keeping them out at the other end proved to be their Achilles’ heel after shipping 63 goals.

Postecoglou will be keen to improve Tottenham’s defensive record by adding several quality additions to his backline.

Talks are ongoing over a deal for Wolfsburg’s 22-year-old talent Micky van de Ven while Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen is also firmly admired.

Spurs are likely to pick between one of the two Bundesliga defenders and personal terms with Van de Ven have already been agreed.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is also a player of strong interest while Clement Lenglet could yet join on a permanent deal from Barcelona following his loan spell last season.

In attack, the arrival of former Fulham loanee Manor Solomon appears to be imminent.

The Israeli winger shone while on loan in west London last season and has already agreed a long-term contract with Spurs but the move is subject to FIFA approval.

Shakhtar Donetsk are threatening legal action as the Ukrainian giants believe they’re entitled to a fee despite the termination of his contract under FIFA ruling.

The 23-year-old talent struck four times in 19 top-flight matches last season for the Cottagers but really began to hit top form in the second half of the season upon return from injury.

He will provide cover and competition for the likes of Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison while Bryan Gil could also yet be handed the chance to also stay.

Spurs will also be able to call upon the creativity and vision of James Maddison after he joined the club in a £40m deal from Leicester.

Harry Winks headed the other way to the Foxes, joining in a separate £10m transfer.
