Tottenham ‘could look to sign Yannick Carrasco and Jan Oblak’ from Atletico Madrid… taking advantage of good relations between the two clubs after Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon moved in the opposite direction

Tottenham could reportedly make use of good relations with Atletico Madrid to sign Yannick Carrasco and Jan Oblak in coming transfer windows.

First, Spurs loaned Atletico the Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon last summer, filling the void left by Renan Lodi’s departure to Nottingham Forest.

Spurs then terminated the contract of Irish right-back Matt Doherty to facilitate his switch to Atletico, allowing Diego Simeone back-up to Nahuel Molina in that position.

Now, Marca report that Atletico could return the goodwill by potentially sending one or more of their stars in the opposite direction to London.

Belgian winger Carrasco, 29, has been linked with a move to the Premier League on several occasions in the past.

With just one year remaining on his Atletico contract, Barcelona have negotiated a ‘preferential but not compulsory purchase option’ for Carrasco.

But given Barcelona’s well-documented financial problems, Marca suggest Tottenham could easily out-bid the Catalans in the summer if they wanted the player.

Slovenian goalkeeper Oblak, 30, is contracted to Atletico through until 2028 having been with the club for almost a decade.

But with Tottenham looking to replace the increasingly error-prone Hugo Lloris, he could be an option for the summer if the Premier League club decided to call in a favour.

Antonio Conte’s Spurs started the season strongly but now face an uphill task to finish in the Premier League top four and make next season’s Champions League.

They trail fourth-placed Manchester United by three points, having played a game more, ahead of the weekend, when they host Manchester City on Sunday.

Spurs do remain in the FA Cup and will take on AC Milan in the Champions League last-16.

Atletico are fourth in the LaLiga table but are some way shy of leaders Barcelona, with a top four finish now their ambition.

They disappointingly finished bottom of their Champions League group.
