Tottenham are reportedly ‘advancing’ in talks with Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as Daniel Levy begins to up the ante in his quest to appoint Antonio Conte’s replacement. The Spurs executive chairman has adopted a patient approach to the process after instilling Cristian Stellini as the club’s interim manager before ruthlessly sacking the Italian and replacing him with assistant Ryan Mason.
However, with Tottenham’s season threatening to finish with a whimper, Mason has failed to put his name firmly in contention for the permanent role.
In the meantime, Spurs have been scanning the market for viable candidates for their vacant sporting director role as Levy continues to work his way through a list of targets.
Despite that, Gianluca Di Marzio is now reporting that Tottenham are making progress in talks with Feyenoord’s highly-rated tactician Slot – meaning we could now be edging closer to a possible appointment.
After a spirited second-place finish last season, Slot has guided his Feyenoord side to the Eredivisie title this time around while also implementing a swashbuckling brand of eye-catching attacking football.
Express Sport revealed back in early April that Slot was beginning to emerge as a strong contender for the Tottenham job and now it appears the north London club have followed up their interest.
Feyenoord are still desperate to keep hold of their boss though and are prepared to offer him a new long-term contract that will see him earn a mega salary increase.
Interestingly, Slot’s current assistant John de Wolf has told the Dutch media that he wouldn’t be following his current partner in crime to Tottenham if he was to land the job.
That’s because he feels as though De Kuip is his home, as he declared: “Then [if Slot leaves for Spurs] I wish him a good game [challenge].
“This is my club, this is where I belong, this is my home. When I drive over the bridge, I still get goosebumps every day.”
Slot has already previously turned down the chance to move to the Premier League back in February when Leeds launched an audacious move for the Dutchman.
Despite their willingness to pay Feyenoord a hefty compensation fee worth up to £4million, Slot was not interested in jumping ship.
Now he has made history and won the Eredivisie title though, things could be different if talks with Tottenham continue to move in the right direction.

Other candidates remain in the frame though include Luis Enrique who is said to be viewed as a top pick alongside Slot.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is also rated highly as Tottenham continue to whittle down their shortlist from the few managerial options that remain.
Brendan Rodgers is said to be angling for a chance to hold talks with Spurs after the club recently confirmed they would not be approaching Julian Nagelsmann.
Highly-rated young coaches Vincent Kompany and Xabi Alonso were also considered but have since committed their futures to Burnley and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively.
Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was totally overlooked as he prepares to take charge at Chelsea.
