Son Heung-min has declared “money doesn’t matter” to the forward anymore as he reaffirmed his commitment to Tottenham amid talk Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ittihad are readying an audacious £50million swoop for his services. The 30-year-old attacker, who penned a new long-term contract at Spurs in the summer of 2021, is the latest player to receive a lucrative proposal from the Middle East where he would get the chance to team up with Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante under his former boss Nuno Espirito Santo in Jeddah.
But Son has now made it clear he intends to hit the ground running under new boss Ange Postecoglou following an underwhelming campaign last term as Spurs missed out on European qualification.
“I have many things to do in the Premier League,” Son said while away on international duty with South Korea.
“Money doesn’t matter to me now and the pride of playing football in my favourite league is important. I’ll prepare well when I’m back at Spurs.”
Son managed just 10 Premier League goals last term after previously winning the 2021/22 Golden Boot with 23 goals – helping fire Spurs into the Champions League under Antonio Conte in the process.
Now he is determined to rediscover his goalscoring form and prove he is still among the best players in the top-flight after snubbing a four-year contract thought to be worth £25m per year in Saudi.
Tottenham could have new attacking reinforcements to call upon next season with Postecoglou targeting a £50m move for Leicester’s James Maddison.
Newcastle are also interested in the England international playmaker who is said to favour a move to north London this summer.
Spurs have also now wrapped up the £25.6m permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus after several weeks of discussions.
Daniel Levy was keen to reduce the £30m option to buy and eventually got his wish, striking a deal with the Italian giants for the Swede, who has spent the past 18 months on loan at Tottenham.
Kulusevski was particularly delighted to hear new Spurs boss Postecoglou was keen on working with him as the feeling is very much reciprocated.
“My understanding is that he was very interested in me,” the 23-year-old winger told SportBladet.
“I’m glad we’re getting a new coach with new ideas. What I’ve read and heard about him is good.”
The former Juventus, Atalanta and Parma forward wants to reach new heights next season following a frustrating personal campaign.
Kulusevski added: “I still think I can grow so much. I’m still young, I’m 23, I hope to play this game for many years.
“I think I can improve a lot, especially in the head, because that’s where it all is – football here, everyone can play. I’m always positive. We all love this game. Eventually, the storm goes and it’s all smiles again…”
Tottenham travel to Brentford on the opening day of the Premier League season in August.
