“Spurs fans have got to realise where they were when Nuno left. Would they have got into the Champions League? No. Would they get into the last-16 or get into the top four [without Conte]? No I don’t think they would. It just shows you straight away you know what the answer is,” he said, when asked if Spurs are better off with Conte.
“Whether you like Conte’s style of play or whatever, that’s a different story. The young generation of fans, they don’t care how Spurs play. They want to see a trophy. Those who are 35 or under, they’ve been starved of that.
“The older generation in the 60s and the style of play, they might say the style isn’t good enough but there’s a split between the fans here.
“You don’t get extra points for playing well. As long as the ball hits the back of the net, whether it goes in off the bar or the goalkeeper, it doesn’t make a difference. It’s a results-driven game.”
