Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski deal could rise to nearly £44m as mega-money clause revealed

Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski deal could rise to nearly £44m as mega-money clause revealed

Tottenham could end up forking out £44m for Dejan Kulusevski if certain clauses are met. Spurs signed the Sweden international on deadline day in the January transfer window from Juventus.

Tottenham’s deal to sign Kulusevski may have been fairly cheap, but could end up costing them £44m after a mega-money clause was revealed.

That would be close to five times more than the near £9m loan fee that was agreed upon during negotiations with Juventus.

The Old Lady were happy to see the Sweden international leave after failing to make the impact that was expected following his bright spell at Parma.

But Spurs were desperate to bolster their squad in the transfer window with Antonio Conte becoming increasingly impatient.

It had not been a great January up to that point after being rejected by Luis Diaz, Franck Kessie and even non-league ace Ollie Tanner.

With time running out, club sporting director Fabio Paratici put a call in to his old team at Juventus to shop around and landed two players in the process.

As well as Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur has also arrived to bolster Tottenham’s midfield while the Swede can operate further up the pitch.

The 21-year-old signed for the north London side on deadline day on an initial 18-month loan.

And that will become permanent should certain conditions be met, reports transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

If Kulusevski starts 15 or more Premier League and Tottenham finish in the top four, it will trigger a clause worth £35m that will be added on to the £9m already spent.

However, Spurs could save themselves some cash if they fork out the £30m fee necessary to make the deal permanent this summer.

The former Atalanta star can perform across the front three as well as in midfield and has high potential after a stunning loan spell at Parma in 2019/20.

It saw the Stockholm-born ace awarded the Series A best young player of the season while Conte has ruled out a debut against Brighton this weekend.

The Italian added: “About Kulusevski, he is a good player, he is very young, he is a great talent and he can play like a number 10 with the strikers but at the same time he has the potential to play wing-back on the right, he has good quality.

“He likes to attack, he is good on a one vs one, to create chances for team-mates. A good signing for us.”
