There were the dark brown lined lips, pencil-thin eyebrows and scrunchies. And don’t forget the slip dresses, ultra-low-rise jeans and capri pants.
Much of that has made or is making a comeback but according to influencers, another very permanent thing is rearing its ugly head: the tramp stamp.
Those lower-back tattoos that many women — and, perhaps, some men — regret with the fire of a thousand suns but because Generation Z has a passion for all things from that decade, the tramp stamp is resurging.

At the time, the ink’s location on the body made it synonymous with a trashy, promisculous lifestyle, however nowadays, Gen Z see it more as an empowering statement rather than an unfortunate mistake.

“In the last two, three years, a lot of people have been getting them,” Toronto-based tattoo artist Carisa Fitoussi told Yahoo. “I’ve always loved them, regardless of the stereotype behind them. So l was always open to doing them. I think it’s so cute.”
She added: “I lean more toward that since I grew up seeing my mom dressed a certain way so I love everything Y2K.”
TikTok influencer Callie Wilson shared a video of herself getting tatted.
“Come get a tramp stamp with me,” the content creator captioned her video that has more than 3.8 million views.

Wilson filmed the entire inking process to her followers, which some loved while it brought others back to that regrettable place.
One person wrote, “I’m official old. This cannot be back.”
Another added, “Love u bestie but ur gonna regret this one.”
But she was cheered on by others who commented, “slay” and called her an “icon.”
“Yep, claim them back,” declared one woman.
A second added: “Ma’am you have no idea what you’ve just done. This is the resurrection.”
