Brenna Huckaby’s 2018 SI Swimsuit feature was one for the books. Not only did her photo shoot with James Macari in Aruba produce some phenomenal images, but the 27-year-old athlete became the first Paralympian to be featured in the publication.

Huckaby, a mom of two, is a professional snowboarder and three-time Paralympic gold medalist. After being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, at the age of 14, she had her right leg amputated above the knee. She then used snowboarding as a form of rehabilitation and quickly fell in love with the sport.

“I see it as an opportunity to inspire others. It’s very rare, if ever, you see a woman with a disability pose in sexy swimsuits,” Huckaby told SI Swimsuit at the time of her feature. “I want to help change the stigma behind disabilities. I want other women, regardless of their body, to know they are powerful and sexy.”

While she used her SI Swimsuit debut as an opportunity to inspire others, Huckaby continues to do so today through her many platforms. She works as a mindset coach and helps clients reach their goals related to confidence, goal setting, self-love and more.

Below are six of our absolute favorite photos from her time on location with Macari in Aruba.
