Travel Restrictions Update For July 2023

0

July is the peak of summer travel as families and individuals travel to see family or sightsee before school and work schedules resume. Travel restrictions are minimal for domestic and international travel, which is contributing to travel demands for many destinations.

United States Travel Restrictions

There are no travel restrictions within the United States. Additionally, the coronavirus vaccine mandate for foreign visitors ended on May 11, 2023. So, tourists can enter the U.S. by car, plane or boat restriction-free. However, overseas arrivals remain approximately 26% below May 2019 levels, according to the latest monthly insights from the U.S. Travel Association.

Canada Travel Restrictions

The Canada and United States land border is fully open in both directions as the entry requirements are similar to the pre-pandemic protocols of needing a valid travel passport.

Mexico Travel Restrictions

There are no travel restrictions between Mexico and the United States as the land border checkpoints fully opened for leisure travel in May.

Latin America Travel Restrictions

The travel restrictions to Central America and South America are minimal and continue to gradually ease back into pre-pandemic fashion. As a result, it’s easy to enjoy a tropical vacation near the equator or winter weather in South American countries like Argentina.

There are no restrictions for the fully vaccinated. However, two nations still require a negative pre-arrival test for the unvaccinated:

Caribbean Travel Restrictions

No travel restrictions exist for popular Caribbean destinations that are reachable by air or cruise ship. Individual nations may have unique entry requirements.

Europe Travel Restrictions

There are no travel restrictions to Europe. Travel volumes to the continent and the United Kingdom remain robust as many fly to this destination. European cruises are also popular and have minimum passenger restrictions.

As has been the case for over a year, travel to Russia and Ukraine is impeded due to armed conflict.

Indonesia Travel Restrictions

The ability to visit one of the most exotic tropical destinations is on the table again for a number of travelers. Indonesia expired its remaining pandemic-related entry requirements on June 9, 2023, such as needing a current coronavirus vaccination.

This island nation is home to popular locations, including Bali. Additionally, tourists will no longer need pre-arrival testing, and public mask mandates have been lifted. Local regulations may still apply.

The travel entry requirements for Indonesia are now similar to many popular Asian tourism destinations, such as Japan and Thailand.

Philippines Travel Restrictions

The Philippines lean on the stricter side of the spectrum regarding entry requirements for travelers. Unvaccinated guests must have a negative pre-arrival test result and are subject to a rapid antigen test upon arrival.

China Travel Restrictions

China fully opened for tourism in March 2023 for the first time in three years, although leisure travel to this destination can remain challenging. Aspiring travelers must obtain an entry visa before entering the mainland, Hong Kong or Macau.

Additionally, a negative pre-arrival test result is required in most situations.

Additionally, the U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory on June 30, 2023, recommending individuals reconsider travel to the mainland. Potential risks in the memorandum include “the arbitrary enforcement of local laws, including in relation to exit bans, and the risk of wrongful detentions.”

Oceania Travel Restrictions

There are no restrictions to visit Australia or New Zealand. This is the winter travel season for this region in the Southern Hemisphere. Travel volumes to either destination are lower this time of the year which can be beneficial to certain tourists and global explorers.

Africa Travel Restrictions

The African continent has a patchwork of travel restrictions that vary by country. Fully vaccinated travelers can enter most nations without testing or quarantine.

Unvaccinated visitors must have a negative pre-arrival test result for approximately nine nations located in central and western Africa.

Regardless of vaccination status, most visitors can travel to Egypt, Morocco and South Africa, which are three of the most popular places to visit in Africa for tourism.

Summary

Most places are fully open for leisure travel, which makes it easy for tourists to explore the world. Travelers can book flights, cruises and excursions with peace of mind. But it’s still worth the effort to review local and national travel guidelines for the destination to be fully prepared.
