Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed that the mood in the Liverpool camp is ‘low’ despite registering their fifth top-flight win in a row against Fulham.

Liverpool have been in fine form in recent weeks, smashing Leeds United 6-1 before further victories over Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Tottenham and now Fulham.

Despite their purple patch, Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League table and it is still a huge ask for them to finish in the top four with Jurgen Klopp’s side four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United having played two games more.

Alexander-Arnold admits Liverpool are not in a ‘genuine top four race’ and that has led to a low mood within the dressing room.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory over Fulham on Wednesday, Alexander-Arnold said: ‘It was decent. We won the game and that’s all that matters.

‘They are a good side and have performed well this season. We dominated a lot of the first half and they had counter-attacks but then they grew into the second half.

‘It’s becoming a bit of a pattern. We haven’t been able to sustain our good starts. It’s something we probably need to look at.

‘The fans were as good as they always are. It reflects where we are in the league and what we have to play for left.

‘It’s not where we want to be and that’s as a club as players, staff and fans. We want to be in title races at this stage of the season or in genuine top four races.

‘We’re not in that right now and that might be why the mood is a little low.’
