Trent Alexander-Arnold dedicated Liverpool’s 4-1 victory against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday evening to schoolgirl Ava White.

The 12-year-old was stabbed in Liverpool city centre last week at a Christmas lights switch on.

A boy, 14, has been charged with her murder and appeared in court on Monday.

At the end of the game, Alexander-Arnold took his shirt off to reveal a message to Ava underneath.

“RIP Ava White,” read the touching tribute, with the England international later sharing it on social media.

Liverpool also shared Alexander-Arnold’s tribute on social media and both clubs asked fans to pay their respects to Ava before the game.

Everton tweeted: “Tonight at Goodison, we ask both sets of supporters to applaud on 12 minutes in memory of 12-year-old Ava White, who tragically lost her lift in the city centre last week.”

Both sets of supporters obliged and held up a half-blue, half-red banner that read: “No more knives in our city.”

Jordan Henderson opened the scoring at Goodison Park after just nine minutes, as Mohamed Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead moments later.

Demarai Gray pulled one back for Everton just before half-time, but late goals from Salah and Diogo Jota secured all three points for the visitors.

“I had moments tonight that I enjoyed a lot,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. “I liked what I saw and it was by far the best performance we’ve done at Goodison.

“We made a big step in our development that we can take these kind of games, even though they are really important for the opponent.

“We can put emotions to the side. What football moments we had in the first half – incredible.

“The positions we put on the pitch made it really difficult to get at us. We gave a goal away for no reason – that is how it is.

“The crowd were angry and we gave them life back. After half-time we controlled it again.

“It was for sure a nine out of 10 performance from each of the boys, apart from moments. We shouldn’t take that for granted though.”

Liverpool’s win at Goodison leaves Everton with just one point from their last seven Premier League games, with a tough fixture against Arsenal next.

The Gunners have lost just once in all competitions since August – and that was against Liverpool.

“I think anyone who could see the game saw we made too many mistakes and when you do that against a top side you pay for it,” admitted Everton manager Rafa Benitez.

“The fans at the beginning were pushing and after we scored the atmosphere was really good. Then the second half we started on top but then another mistake changed the game.”

Many Everton fans are calling for Liverpool legend Benitez, who led the Reds to their fifth Champions League title in 2005, to be relieved of his duties.

Television presenter Richard Keyes believes the Toffees should replace the Spaniard with his assistant Duncan Ferguson.
